Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 Update

NASA's Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft continue their groundbreaking journey through interstellar space, each pursuing its own unique path in the vastness of the universe. The NASA Eyes on the Solar System app allows you to track their real-time positions and explore their latest discoveries.

Communication with Voyager 1 Restored

After five months of intermittent communication, Voyager 1 successfully reconnected with its NASA team on April 5th. Through the relay of data packets, mission controllers received updates on the spacecraft's health and status, ensuring that the interstellar explorer remains operational.

Recent Communication Challenges

Voyager 1 briefly stopped transmitting readable data to Earth on November 14th, 2023. Despite the apparent communication breakdown, mission controllers knew that the spacecraft was still operational based on signals it was receiving from Earth. Engineers later sent a specific command that prompted Voyager 1 to send a readout of its Flight Data System (FDS) memory.

FDS Memory Readout Analysis

The analysis of the FDS memory readout provided valuable insights into Voyager 1's current status. The team confirmed a small anomaly but determined that it did not compromise the spacecraft's critical functions. Voyager 1 continues to explore the interstellar medium, collecting scientific data and providing valuable information about the outer reaches of our solar system.
